Piney, as he’s aptly been named, had a bit of a bumpy start before he met his guardian angels at Vet Ranch. Homeless and abandoned, Piney had been relying on the kindness of a woman who fed him when he came around her yard, but he’d trained himself not to let anyone get too close.
That was before he had his attack.
The kind woman who’d been feeding Piney discovered him wandering up to her yard looking exhausted and possibly dehydrated. And upon further appraisal, it wasn’t difficult to see why — his face was covered in porcupine needles. He hadn’t been able to eat, drink, or sleep for days. That’s when Dr. Matt and his team stepped in.
Vet Ranch Rescue reaches out to provide service for dogs who would otherwise face euthanasia, or whose owners can’t afford the vet bills for their broken or injured animals — dogs like Scrappy, who faced being put down for no other reason than a case of mange.
For these rescues and Piney, who didn’t at first trust anyone, a little TLC and some kindness goes a long way. Even though he’d only been with Dr. Matt and his team for a couple of days, a dog who’d never had much human interaction was already letting people pet him. And if that isn’t evidence that every dog deserves a fair shake at a happy home, I don’t know what is.
